It’s the last day of January and the theme for today is “Freestyle.” This means that I can post whatever I want. So, I decided to dig back through the photos I took this month and choose one that I liked, but didn’t post throughout the month.
Hemming Park is a 150 year old 1.5 acre park right in the middle of downtown, Jacksonville. The city is constantly trying to come up with creative ways to use the park and bring Jacksonville locals into the downtown area. Though I believe they’ve made some great striders, I think they’ve still got a way to go before downtown Jacksonville becomes a weekend detonation for folks.
On this particular day, some friends and I were doing a Photo walk through downtown and used Hemming Park as our start/finish point. In the park were folks playing checkers, dominoes, or just hanging out. Sadly, there were also a number of homeless folks hanging out at the park as well. City workers were putting up vendor tables, and food trucks were arriving to setup for a special event that was going to be happening later. I never confirmed it, but was told that it was a celebration of the 1 year anniversary of the state of Florida legally recognizing same sex marriage.
In this photo, the band was warming up and this lady felt the need to move. I loved how she didn’t care that no one else was dancing, she felt the music move through her and just let go. If you look at her face, you can feel the joy in her heart. That’s what music does for me as well, I connected with her in that moment.
Well, that’s all for now. I hope you are enjoying my blog. It’s definitely labor of love for me, but I’ve enjoyed every post I’ve uploaded this month and am looking forward to starting out February with you tomorrow with the theme of “below.” I have no idea what I am going to do for that, but then again, I usually don’t know what I am going to do until the very last moment.
Thanks for reading my blog, I’ll see you all tomorrow.
